Chan Ky-Yut was born in Guanzhou in 1940 in an environment of scholars and doctors. He now lives in the Ottawa region in Canada. He started using brush and ink as well as Chinese pigments from the early age of three. He studied very seriously classical Chinese painting and learnt rapidly. Following the example of the ancient scholars he retired to the mountains where he lived like an hermit for five years. He left Hong-Kong after 1970 and decided to travel the world and finally settled in Canada.
He has since exhibited in the great capitals of the world: Paris, London, Geneva, Brussels, Washington D.C. Shanghai, Taipei.
