Shan Sa

As part of the Chinese New Year exhibition we have the pleasure to present four paintings by Shan Sa.
Shan Sa was born in Beijing and brought up according to the ancient scholar’s tradition. She started to write poetry at the age of seven while being taught the art of calligraphy and Chinese painting. She discovered Paris and its museums at the age of seventeen, learnt French, studied philosophy and attended the Ecole du Louvre courses. She became the secretary of the painter Balthus and his wife. Shan Sa was awarded three literary prizes of which the Goncourt des lycéens for La joueuse de go, a novel published in 30 countries.
As well as being a recognized writer, Shan Sa is also a painter. In France she worked with Enrico Navarra; in the US she is one of the Marlbourough Gallery artists. Her paintings have been exhibited in Japan,in Tokyo and Nagoya, in France in Paris, in China in Shanghai and will be shortly exhibited in Beijing.
