Fabienne Verdier is a contemporary French painter. She was born in 1962 in Paris. After brilliant studies at the Toulouse “Ecole supérieure des Beaux-Arts ”, still in her twenties, she decides to leave for China in order to discover the secrets of ancient Chinese Art.
In China, Fabienne Verdier lives the Spartan life of the Sichuan students. The Republic she discovers from within is very different from what she had imagined. The Party's omnipresence does not facilitate the contacts she is looking for : ancient scholars, traditional painters, calligraphers and seal sculptors who no longer correspond to the norms set by socialist realism. Thanks to her perseverance she continues her artistic and philosophic quest. She leaves China after ten years, rich of these studies and continues to develop her own art in France. In her book : “La passagère du silence” Fabienne Verdier tells the story of her magical encounters with the old masters of this forgotten art.
Fabienne Verdier has created since a personal art, a fusion between the ancient art of calligraphy and her contemporary training. What matters most is keeping the vital energy in her paintings, she explains in her art book: “ L’unique trait de pinceau”.
Lithography is one part of Fabienne Verdier's art. Her 1999 lithographs were executed in a traditional way.
